small File 2 large for dvd disk

Ok guyz im experiencing a little problem with making Dvd's. How do I do this?

The reason I ask is because im having problems with the current software bundled with my DVD Writer.

If I use a 700Mb .avi file and want to put it on a 4.7 GB DVD ROM so as it will play through my Playstation 2 and DVD Player. But when adding the 700MB .avi file to the DVD ROM it turns out to be too big for the disk!! Ive tried a few different types of software but nothing has worked so far. I came here for help before trying any downloads from UTC as im fed up installing and uninstallin useless software. If you can help me guys it'd be much appriciated.

    Thanx

More info please. If you also have a CDR, it is possible that is your primary drive and you need to switch to your DVD burner in the software. But a 700 MB file should still burn in a CDR, so it doesn't sound like that is the problem.

Does your DVD burner show up in Windows?

What software have you tried and is it seeing your DVD burner?

Be as specific as possible, these things are hard to diagnose without a lot of info.

I think whats happening here is he has a DIVX file which he wants to play on a standalone. this is not possible with his equipment, so he wants to, with his dvd software, convert the divx to the dvd format (Vcd) which would take up 4.7 gb or more. this is playable on the standalone.

before I know what program you are using, all I can tell you is to try to look around in your program's options to find a quality reducer or compressor....if you cant figure that out try reencoding the vcd file with CCE for best results
