Give the bickering a break here guys.
hehe Carpefile, Drake..I should never have started mentioning names because more and more of yesteryears nicks show up lol
And Carpe is right, get to the old members of places like this, UTC, ZP (especially the good ones, ie those that got banned lol) et cet and you have a pretty knowledgable crowd when it comes to p2p. We dont need help, at most we need a quick invite to somewhere, and Im sure we all have places to get them.
We irc and socialize at our trackers too. A friendly place is nice, but its not enough anymore. If you are willing to accept and try to tackle this problem, then it is worthwhile to observe and support. Im all for ya man, I just want to make sure were on the same page.
Anyone remember ES5? I dont think any of us needs another Titanic project![]()

Ok, a file shared on any decent private BitTorrent tracker is also 100% virus free and not a fake and in some cases, it will remain well seeded for several months. But many private torrent sites deleted torrents after X amount of days so files will almost always remain available longer on the eMule netork. I'll give you that.Originally Posted by the_dial_up_boy
Ideally, your vision of P2P would be better than what's going on in BitTorrent communities, in my opinion. eMule is still great but it has been hammered by the anti p2p companies on all fronts. They started off by taking down most of the big ed2k verified link sites. They then flooded the network with fakes. They then setup hundreds of fake servers. The average P2P user will not like eMule very much after he downloads a 4GB file that ends up being a decoy file. It usually takes quite a bit of time to download 4GB on eMule so the frustration goes up a notch when all this time was spent downloading crap.
eMule needs to continue to evolve. When they introduced a feature that defeats throttling, it was a huge step in the right direction but they need to do a lot more to combat those who disrupt their network. Perhaps a decentralized database where users can create usernames anonymously and post links to verified sites and servers would put an end to the threats of viruses and fake files once and for all. But as far as I know, no one is working on such a project.
I was a huge fan of eMule and I still think it's very useful, especially when I'm trying to track down rare files. But it's easy to see why BitTorrent is more widely used. As you've pointed out, BitTorrent has it's shortcomings as file retention is short on most trackers. But there are exceptions, such as Demonoid and TPB. Dismissing an entire network based on the actions of some of its file sharers doesn't do any good for the file sharing community. We will never get rid of leechers. The "I want it fast fast fast" mentality that you brought up will not disappear.
What we need to work on are better ways to share files with each other. We need ingenious ideas and ingenious programmers in order to win this fight. And maybe a little more civility. After all, we're all pirates here, no?

He has a point when he states that file sharing on BitTorrent can seem a lot more like taking rather than sharing, but I've made my counter arguments to that in my response to him. Anyway, ideally, all files would be shared freely and file availability would be great and eMule would thrive in this sort of world but it's not the one we live in and until it evolves a bit more, it's unlikely that it will recapture the crown of most popular P2P network/app.
P.S. Are you still dealing with those damn spammers. One thing I don't miss about moderating this forum is those idiots... especially the wow gold fools. I hate those fuckers.http://www.againsttcpa.com/

I sure don't see it that way. I have torrents on Demonoid that are still sustaining themselves three and a half years later. That doesn't seem like taking without giving to me. i can, with patience, usually find what I'm looking for as a torrent, where I usually can't anymore with eMule. I've never been able to with DC++
If DUB sincerely felt this way, he could and should have been advocating and evangelizing for whatever he means by "real" P2P for lo these many years. He has not. He's never done anything but update his idiosyncratic little IP filter while ignoring the rest of the forum.
If by "framing his argument" you mean blaming WHATEVER it is he doesn't like about Bittorrent on Cassie and myself, calling us "losers" &c, then yeah, I guess I may be a little bit put off by that. I also don't find much merit, or even a real firm grip on reality, in anything he said. In any case, it's too late.
The spam does seem to have let up a tiny bit - it's down to needing to clean some up every other visit, instead of every visit, but that may be a fluke for a couple of reasons. I wish there were a Bayesian filter available for it.

Re: Hello, New Owner
My ipfilter is used worldwide , in any continent it's used and many people thank me and my team for this job ,
since you as administrator speaks of bullshit against me and my work and my team and all the people that think alike to me ,
I leave this forum , don't take it as victory , the time will tell because in my opinion you're in deficit.
That is to say, I see nothing noteworthy......about your sentences...
or your general appearance as a poor mind .
In summary,
I don't like the cut of your jib.

As I've been at pains to point out, you haven't been in this forum.
I suspect that your not-participating in the future won't be much more noticed than your not-participating in the past has been.
Best of luck to you, your team, all those who think like you, and your world-wide audience. May you have a happy and prosperous new year.

Re: Hello, New Owner
I was very active in the P2P scene for a number of years. I was also VERY well known for having a horrible temper. (Photography is my outlet now). I want to get mad and crap, I head into Facebook and kill someone in Vampire or Mafia Wars.
As my 2nd post (My first was to reply to a "spammer" that an admin missed) I want to apologize to all the Staff and old time users here at P2P. I was a really horrible person here, and my offline life wasn't any better. I'm not the same person I was, I really have mellowed out over the last few years. I dont feel the need to treat people like dirt. **** happens to all of us, I just didn't know how to deal with it.
For those of you that have figured it out by now (and this will probably be my last post (right Drake). I am/was Pantharen and this is my creative outlet: http://pantharen.deviantart.com/
Drake: please dont ban me again. I am not the same aggressive person I was, but if you feel for what ever reason deep down inside that I haven't changed, then so be it.

Re: Hello, New Owner
I'm no longer an admin or mod here. I've read similar posts from you on at least 3 different occasions so you'll have to excuse me for not believing a single word. Although you may think I was the one who pushed the others to ban you, that's not how it happened. The truth is no one in particular had it in for you. You got banned after a lot of debate and as a result of various things such as flaming newbies, spamming, necroposting and an assortment of other crap.
From what I can tell, I doubt the new admins & mods will be as lenient.http://www.againsttcpa.com/
