I see an image sayin winmx is no longer available![]()
What happened to the files?
The installer? WinMX was shut down by the RIAA. You may still be able to get the installer from another p2p network, but it's dead now.
So winmx is no more what is this then
lol
I see your running our PIEpatch in the jpgs. Hence the reason for the "Please be Patient" msg.
Glad to see people out there using it, while the WinMX network isnt as big as it was, 400+k on at any one time is a file pool to be reckoned with.
An eye for an eye, making the world blind - The "Mahatma"
Sorry to post again, but just for the record, the network was back up and running less than 36 hours after WinMX pulled the plug on their peer caches.

The WinMX community is back, the files are back, and the users are taking a stand. Get connected Today.
It is time for the RIAA to understand that they cannot destroy filesharing by intimidation any longer. They may be able to bully Corporations, but the users are not going to sit by and let it happen.
MXPIE is an effort by the users and for the users, with an agenda of making WinMX a p2p network not only for the users, but maintained, organized and perpetuated by the people.
Come Join us, we believe that we can make a difference in this fight to take away our rights. We welcome all of those who are tired of going from one p2p network to another simply because the RIAA flexed its billions of dollars worth of muscles.
MXPIE is quick, easy and free to use, it contains no spyware, adware or any other form of malware. We even provide a manual modification that allows you to see exactly what is being done that only takes minutes to do yourself.
Another site worth note is Computer Problem Help Forum, this site has also been at the forefront of this movement, and can help you with any general computer problem that may or may not be related to WinMX.
Check out the MXPIE Website for everything you need.
I hope to see you on WinMX soon! Realtime help is available for WinMX 3.53 users. Go to WinMX Channels.
But the offical winMX is still dead...
New networks derived or based off winMX ought to be considered seperat, which was the case with the independent napster servers, I know morpheus was one of them before if even joined the kazaa network, it had a different name too.
I dont know what its being called, those involved should come up with a name for it to show that it is independent, different to some degree and active, and breathe some new life into it. If there is a new name for it or something that i missed let me know and ill see if i can get the title fixed here to show that.
Also a good community for WinMX redux is WinMXWorld.
And about the latest news , according to Wikipedia WinMx entry :
Resurrection
By September 23, 2005, users were able to download two unofficial patches for WinMX from two unrelated websites. These patches worked by modifying the DNS lookup WinMX uses to find peer caches.
When WinMX tries to find the Frontcode peer caches (central servers essential for the operation of WinMX), it is instead directed to look up one of the new peer caches set up by the WinMX communities. Although these patches reconnected users, the official closure caused the userbase to decrease, and those who remained were split between the patches causing rifts between them. Each group wanted users to get reconnected using their patch and not the patch of the other group.
In 2008, a new patch was released to coincide with the third anniversary of the two previous patches' release date. Known as the "WinMX Community Patch", it was created through the joint effort of an independent, third-party programmer and the cooperative input and testing from the two communities. Supported and available for download by both groups, it is intended to replace the previous patches being used, allowing all users to once again connect to a single set of peer caches, unifying all users for the first time since the official closure of WinMX in 2005.
Also, there are still "Napigator" replacement server trackers operating.
They are...

There are a few other static pages I've found but they appear to be dated by several years and I have not included them.

Surprised that this is still being used!
