can some of these more advanced or in-depth tweaks harm the computer in the long run, or something like that. Like overclocking hardware seems kinda sketchy.

Slow Downloads After XP SP2 Install?

    Get the patch here
For latest patch version go here
The patch is also available in german.

Event ID 4226 Patcher (4226 fix)

    What's this all about?
After almost everybody knows the <<EventID 4226: TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts>>, I used a day to create for educational purpose a fix for this argumentative feature.

Unfortunately there exists no REG-key which could easily be set (would be so nice and easy, right? *smile*). The file TCPIP.SYS in the directory C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS and C:\WINDOWS\SERVICEPACKFILES\I386 has to be changed (system dependend eventually in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DLLCACHE, too).

    Needed things:
    - Windows XP SP2 (from RC2 upwards) or Windows 2003 Server SP1 beta
    - patcher
    - a small amount of time

    What's been done:
To say it easy: the before 10 half-open connections are beeing increased to 50 (can be changed during runtime and with the parameter /L) and the CRC is been corrected. And that's it!

    Comment:
The method described here, should only be used by users, who know how to handle all the described. With the download of the here published program the user know, that changes are made on third party files. For damages in every kind I cannot be hold responsible for. Indeed, tests worked fine here. However, nothing is impossible.
Info: When error occurs, the patcher can change the TCPIP.SYS back to the original!

    Instruction:
Just download the patcher and execute it. It will automatically find the windows directory and ask, if it should increase/decrease. For higher values, please check the help with parameter /?.
After a successful patch, the new TCPIP.SYS will be automatically installed. After that, the computer should be restarted.[/url]

This is probably one of the best Windows (any version) tweaking sites on the net. He even shows you how to make an ultra stable version of Win98SE by using WinME files to replace Win98SE system & other files such as defrag.exe (you can use WinME defrag in Win98/98SE, it is heaps faster than the default one).

    Optimization Guides

Optimize XP - A Windows XP Optimization Guide

Clean Spyware and Viruses + Optimize Windows XP to improve home, work and gaming performance safely. Windows XP's default configuration is far from optimized. This Free guide will help you improve your overall system performance without having to manually edit the Registry. I avoid using or recommending "all-in-one" Windows XP Tweak programs since many blindly adjust settings that have no affect on performance and can cause future problems. This guide is designed to be performed top to bottom, in sequence since some steps are required to be performed before others.

XP Myths - Myths Regarding Windows XP

Myth (Definition) - A fiction or half-truth, especially one that forms part of an ideology. There are numerous Myths floating around the Internet regarding Windows XP, especially relating to Optimizations and Security. Hopefully this site will debunk some of these.
For the novice and expert user.

Wish I had read that last post sooner. Ok, here's the direct download for XP SP-2, the IT version (266 megs). Just download the patch and then install, you might want to burn it to a cd. This version should also work for pirated copies.

    WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe

If you have a legal copy of Windows XP then you can order an official XP service pack update cd from microsoft. Yes it really is free even the shipping. The Catch, it has windows valadation built into it.

I've been meaning to post this for awhile.

How to Patch Windows Genuine Advantage:

First perform a Windows Update to make sure you have the up to date Windows installer, however do not click the link to validate your copy of Windows.

Download the file from here: Windows.Genuine.Advantage.Validation.v1.5.530.0.CR ACK.

If you have the message starting up that your copy isn't legit use this program: WGANotify_Remover.

LOL.. its a clone of my torrent.. anyways it works partially...
It fakes the originality but newer installers check the VLK too.. unless you have a genuine VLK you cant get trough the installation. There is no bypass for that on torrents yet but there are some floating on the net..

Yeah, I had made an installer for that but it seems to have disappeard from the web compleatly.

Right now I'm just trying to get Windows Update going for people. With that auto update should work.

EDIT: Ok, I edited my above post for direct links so no one has to use .torrents and I found another useful program.
