eMule has been a staple in the eDonkey2000 (eD2k) file-sharing community since 2002. eD2k is now one of the most popular and notorious networks out there, and a huge amount of its success is down to the eMule project. eMule can easily be deemed as one of the most respected file sharing applications on the market.

Thought eMule development had reached its peak? Think again. Official word of a P2P technology breakthrough which could, literally, change our everyday lives has been released.

The upcoming release of eMule 1.0, the first official non-beta build of the mule, will incorporate new technology to aid the sharing of hardware between computing enthusiasts.

To find out how this was possible, RespectP2P spoke briefly to an eMule development leader, who, for security reasons wishes to remain anonymous. He had the following to say:

"Hardware sharing has long been a feature most P2P developers have strived after for years. The eMule team is proud to announce the first working hardware sharing model which we believe will appeal to a high range of users."

A new section to the eMule development site will be opening around the beginning of April, which will offer users a chance to purchase an eMule hardware component dubbed "H-Share".
The H-Share PC add-on will allow advanced users to print a limited range of electrical circuits for those interested in building their own peripherals. The device can be connected to a PC via a standard USB or FireWire port.
H-Share is rumored to be going on sale for the small price of $5-20, which will cover delivery and other basic expenses for the team.

For those familiar with the open-source and free nature of the mule, you'll be pleased to know a PayPal-style service will be put in place for users who wish to trade hardware with others but don't wish to fork out cash for a H-Share add-on.

Though in the early stages, H-Share is already looking to be a real possibility for providing actual support for hardware sharing.

"We've already been successful in creating a basic 2-button mouse, a number pad and the vast majority of a keyboard", claimed the H-Share beta team.

"Although this may not seem much to less tech-savvy users right now, we can see H-Share being used to aid the sharing and development of games consoles, household appliances and even complete computing systems in the near future."
