hello UTC,
I'm building this site www.theyhatep2p.com What about the idea?
I think it could be amusing and useful at the same time ...please I'm looking for some feedback.
And if you know some ppl that hate p2p just submit (http://www.theyhatep2p.com/submit.html)
Thank you

Interesting approach.............
And, welcome to UTC.
As I understand it, not all artists dislike the concept of filesharing. Many artists would never be listened to if there hadn't been p2p or sites like mp3.com, which allows (or allowed) a few free downloads of an artist's work so it can be sampled. With the captions on the sidelines that say things like "and if you like this, try __________." have helped bring some artist into the light.
I don't know of anyone that will go out and spend the money it costs for a new CD on someone they have never heard, the economy is just too tight.
I know of many people who will find artists they really like a lot, but who aren't in the mainstream, and who will go out and spend the money on the CD just to show support for that particular artist. There are several artists that I never would have heard w/o some of the free sites yet now like tremendously and I will not only buy their CD, I will order it through an independent music store just so I can have the full collection of that performer's works.
Also, there are many songs from long ago that I would like to have, songs from my childhood when all we listened to was vinyl, that just aren't out there on CD, and most likely never will be. And, i no longer own a record player & haven't seen a lot of them around in stores.
As for copying a CD that has been bought--I think maybe that isn't such a bad idea, especially if you and your teenager or younger child like the same music. I've had too many CD's that look like they have been used to scrub the front porch with after a trip through my kid's backpack. Or, after sneaking it off to loan to a friend. I think maybe making a back-up of the original, keeping the original in the case, and just using the copy might be a good idea, especially with all the talk of lowering the quality of future CD's so they don't last as long.
I actually have boxes of bought CD's, even though I frequent this site and others like it.
This may be true, or not, I don't know, but as I understand it, the money made by the groups is gathered more from concerts, shirts, etc., the majority of the money spent on CD's goes to the company--the reason many performers have had major conflicts with them.
Like any other arguement, all have their own opinions. Some are informed, others are just noise made to hear themselves.
In any event, I think the time, money, and energy spent on tracking down filesharers could be used much more effectively in other ways. They seem to have put downloaders right up there with terrorists by bringing in such heavy artillery from the Federal gov't.

My Husband just bought a DVD burner after 2 of our DVDs were damaged trying to take them out of the case. Unfortionatly, it was too late for those 2, but its sure nice to know that the rest of them are now safe.....
