From Taschen: The Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) is one of the most important 20th century painters, and one of the few Latin American artists to have achieved a global reputation. In 1983 her work was declared the property of the Mexican state.
Kahlo was one of the daughters of an immigrant German photographer and a Mexican woman of Indian origin. Her life and work were more inextricably interwoven than in almost any other artist's case.

My Personal Opinion:This was a short paperback from the Taschen (www.taschen.com) series on different artists.
It's not nearly as indepth as The Diary of Frida Kahlo (http://www.bookpage.com/9601bp/nonfiction/thediaryoffridakahlo.html) (Introduction & Translation by Carlos Fuentes), which I read last year, but it does give a brief overview of a very tumultuous life led by an artist in her own right who was also married to Diego Garcia, another artist.
Frida became quite popular again recently when Madonna took an interest in her paintings. Because Kahlo was severely injured in an accident at an early age, she paints a lot about her inner feelings of pain and the sorrow she feels about being cheated out of a "normal" life.
The movie Frida, paints her as being a domineering yet still nice person living in Mexico during the time of the People's Revolution. She actually was a heavy drinker and perhaps what many would refer to as a total bitch.
There's lots of pictures, it's quick & easy, not bad for a rainy afternoon.
