I do this quite frequently and thought it would be a nice tip to share with all of you.
Its really simple and these few step will definately make your images "pop" so to speak.
First open your picture and and create a "New Layer".
Next use your Eye Dropper Tool to pick up the color you want to enhance (in this case i wanted to enhance the purple on the flower).
Next go to your Paint Brush and in the Tool Bar change the MODE: to Linear Light and set your Opacity to around 40%. Now you can play with your opacity turning it up and down till you get the effect you want 40% is just a good place to start.
Now the next part is kind of tricky...with as steady a hand as you can, color the area's you wish to enhance being careful not to overlap areas you have already colored as it will be very visible in the picture, in other words don't color a part, unclick your mouse then try to color it again thus doubleing the effect.
Once your done go to your Eraser and clean up any places where you may have "colored outside the lines".
Then all you need to do is Merge your layers and your done!
Tip: you can use this effect also to recolor parts of your picture, say the flower was white you could follow the above steps to make it any color you chose red, blue, etc. Also, you can do this without creating a new layer if you are so bold to do so and think you have a steady enofe hand not to make a mistake.
