The body of late legend Bob Marley, buried for more than two decades, is to be exhumed from a Jamaica cemetery in February and reburied in Ethiopia, the reggae artist's wife Rita announced yesterday. Marley died of cancer in 1981 at the age of thirty-six.

Rita is determined that her husband be moved to Ethiopia, calling the birthplace of Rastafarianism Marley's "spiritual resting place." The Jamaican-born singer-songwriter came to embrace Rastafarianism, in which nature is honored, and followers wear dreadlocks and smoke marijuana. Hundreds of thousands of Jamaicans practice the religion.

I'm a little confused.

-- claims that her husband would have placed his religious beliefs over associations with his birthplace.

his birth place is Cuba, and hes buried in Jamaica....So where does Ethiopia come into it? You don't have to live in Ethiopia, or be buried there to practice a religion. Nor does it matter where you are buried, you still have/had your beliefs.

Rastafarianism, in which nature is honored, and followers wear dreadlocks and smoke marijuana

Hmm....Jamaica doesn't have nature? And as for Marijuana....Jamaica and amsterdam....the most commonly associated with marijuana smoking. Every pot smoker in America knows about these two places and why, and dream of some day going there for that very reason.

Forgive me if I sound a bit bitchy but, What gives her the right to determine where he would want to be. He could have easily voiced his opinion before he passed away. With the Money that man had, you can't tell me that he couldn't have been buried in Ethiopia had he wanted to be buried there.

I truly feel that a persons remains should not be exhumed for anything other than Forensic/Scientific Testing, relating to a specific condition, or suspicion. I believe that doing it just to do it, is disrespectful to the remains of the deceased.

Just my opinion.

Look at it this way. Now we can find out if THC makes for a good preservative.

I just read this from the BBC.

The widow of reggae legend Bob Marley has distanced herself from reports that she plans to exhume his remains in Jamaica and re-bury them in Ethiopia.
