Norton and AVG and a DLink hardware firewall plus BlackIce Software firewall for that damn Slammer Worm. If I could put Teflon Condoms on the old boy (in this case), she'd wear those, too. I'm so sick of these damn worms I could scream, and the more computers I get, the more I get infected--though now I keep all my really important data on an external hard drive.
And does anyone else seem to always have some idiot roommate that walks through and goes "this will fix it (while you are fixing big pitcher of juice and sandwiches to sit down and spend a day crying over the fact you never back up anything) and push the destructive restore button? Does the theme to the shower scene in Psycho play in your head while you have that mayo knife in your hand?
I now p2p in one not on network, do homework inititially in one not on network, then lock down tight everything else so no one can get into it.
Broke up with a guy one time just for messing with my mp3's. Said they would play so much better with this really cool new Media Player 9 that he had downloaded into my machine. Nice guy. could have been a future there. I know someone out there must understand me, he had to go.....Media 9? Not cool. If this was the beginning of our future, it could only get more hellish as time went by.

Sounds like your having a hard day, sorry to hear.
Worms are everywhere at the moment, not much you can do about it...except unplug yourself.

Thanks Lion--That was very sweet of you. Very rarely do I go through one of those "Why Me? What have I done to anger the Gods of porst and cables?" things. But, being a very hot blooded Mediterreanean type, I get over it quickly and juwst get down to business with the thought--how do you eat an elephant: one bite at a time.
Last night Norton caught 2 more worms trying to get in: W32.Plinski and another W.32 variant. I know exactly how these got access and wasn't at all surprised so it was no big.
Ya know, ya do things in an edgie way, edgie things can hapen, I jusrt make sure that if my computers are destroyed, it's me who is doing it now, not some hapless roommate who will never here the end of it.
Thanks again. I amy have to darw, construct, photograph, distort whatever something for such sweet words.

Hey Lion--Think I need to proofread and spell. No wonder I went into graphics!! And with the rest, i just get "Bad Command" if I mess up!
BTW, where do we go to create a signature with picture and words?

W32.Sasser.D
Discovered on: May 03, 2004
Last Updated on: May 04, 2004 01:16:38 PM
The W32.Sasser.D worm:
Is a variant of W32.Sasser.Worm.
Attempts to exploit the LSASS vulnerability described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-011.
Spreads by scanning the randomly selected IP addresses of vulnerable systems.
W32.Sasser.D differs from W32.Sasser.Worm as follows:
Uses a different mutex: SkynetSasserVersionWithPingFast.
Uses a different file name: skynetave.exe.
Has a different file size: 16,384 bytes
Has a different MD5.
Creates a different value in the registry: "skynetave.exe."
Uses a different port for the remote shell: 9995/tcp
Will exit before running any code with an error on some Windows 2000 systems.
Has an updated routine for finding vulnerable computers. It sends an ICMP echo request before attempting to make a connection. This change may prevent the worm from properly executing on some Windows 2000 systems.
This threat is written in C++ and is packed with PECompact.

EPOC.Cabir
Discovered on: June 14, 2004
Last Updated on: June 15, 2004 09:43:59 AM
EPOC.Cabir is a proof-of-concept worm that replicates on Nokia Series 60 phones. This worm repeatedly sends itself to the first Bluetooth-enabled device that it can find, regardless of the type of device. For example, even a Bluetooth-enabled printer will be attacked if it is within range.
The worm spreads as a .SIS file, which is automatically installed into the APPS directory when the receiver accepts the transmission.
When EPOC.Cabir is executed, it:
Displays a message (see the "Technical Details" section), then copies itself to a directory on the phone. (This directory is not visible, by default.)
Runs from this directory when the phone is restarted, so that it continues to work even if the files are deleted from the APPS directory.
Once the worm is running, it will constantly search for Bluetooth-enabled devices, and send itself to the first device that it finds.
There is no payload, apart from the vastly shortened battery life caused by the constant scanning for Bluetooth-enabled devices.

not really an update but, guys n gals, keep your eyes peeled for a nasty little horsey called Rbot, Norton completely missed it on my system and spybot didn't see it either. It's a w32worm called get this, W32.spybot norton said i had this worm but i couldn't find the entries in the registry and it didn't show on a second sweep so i assumed i killed it. Next thing i know i got denial of service attacks. It had changed itself to the trojan Rbot and hid somewhere else in the registry. Webroots Spy sweeper found it and killed. Its a mIRC and Kazaa worm so there's a lot of us at risk from this little beastie.
