This seems to be a new thing
I thought they were out of style

yes there are now pop-ups on Utc. to help foot the bill. Unite is still refining them, hopefully it will get better.

I don't know about anyone else and really I'm not trying to be rude about it but ... it blows! I am on dialup and it's pretty bad when I cannot even navigate through the forums to post right now. I did grab a blocker but it isn't catching all of them. The point being ...it's not cool.

Hey guys I had to add a popup to the index page. I am having trouble making ends meet during this time of the year. The popups pay well and I am in talks to use banners after the first of the year. Until then I need to leave the popups up on the index page. If you want to skip them bookmark the index.php page.
Best

What ever you have to do to keep the place free for all of us is just fine. Thanks for responding:)

And to those of us who can...we need to be clicking the paypal button on the front page.

Add more pop ups for guest users, give them another reason to register.

Is that a trick answer? Cause there is NO WAY as a guest I'd join just to get LESS popups:doh:

Ok guys I have updated the code to only popup on the main page and not in the forums.
Sorry but I need to make up some of the costs for a while and these damn things pay the best.

Its ok Unite. The add blocker that Maxthon uses caught them all.

Thats kinda the point, those who hate pop ups can just register to get rid of them, provides an incentive to get people to register and hopefully start posting, those who dont can just live with the pop ups, it is their choice.
unite dont be sorry, you have bills you have to pay too and ads are everywhere on the internet. If anyone should be apologizing its some of the other sites who seem to care more about making money to the point it appears to affect the decision making, than the purpose of the site.

I realise that was the point :) so what...you put a thing on the front page that says... if you want these to stop you need to register? That's just silly if you ask me...which noone did but oh well. Like I said b4 if I were to come in and have it like that as a guest I'd NEVER register. And why have ppl who are just lurkers join up? All that does is populate fake #'s and we need posters

I would have to disagree here. Lurkers are real numbers, fake numbers are caused by one person haveing more than one account.

Just picking your remark at random amb, but it does work, though I was shocked when I saw one blast up at me. I would prefer to see a flashing banner than the huge drop down of smilies, but it isn't my choice.
It has worked for other sites, geocities is one huge one I can think of.
I haven't had one since yesterday when I was coming off IE for Win updates, so I blamed IE. Firefox hasn't let any through since then.
Here is a site I belong to that has a huge flashing banner on it--I'd prefer this, but this site has a tone of active posters.

It not the posters that we need...not that we don't want that....itd donations that we need. If more people donated, the adds would be gone as well.
BTW...there are pop-up blockers in the downloads section...

Personally i think is better to be consistent and just have some ads to break even that arent the spyware ridden ones or make the site look like a huge billboard. Coming and going, on and off only allows the possiblity of bugs to appear, and i dont think a few banner ads and a pop up or two is going run off anyone.

I don't get pop-ups when accessing the front index.php page.

IE 6 has a pop up blocker in it. Thats probably why you dont see it on the front page.
It doesnt show up when you go to the forums.
