Basic IRC commands

Some of the most commonly used IRC Commands:

/join
Use to join a channel
Example: /join #unitethecows.com

/part
Use to part a channel but not the server
Example: /part #unitethecows.com

/nick
used to change your current nick to a new one
Example: /nick Amber
**Note: If the nick you change to has been registered, you will have to chose a different nick

/me
used for an action
Example: /me nods----Will come up in the channel as *Feenies-Wife nods

/ignore
used to ignore a user that is bothering you (asl people get this a lot!)
Example: /ignore john_doe

notice
send a message to the chat screen for one person
Example: /notice lil_amb

/query
opens a new window to someone in a private message
Example: /query lil_amb

/whois
Used to get info on a specific nick
Example: /whois lil_amb

/quit
quits irc You can enter a message for all to see
Example: /quit you all should be happy I was here.

And alternative commands:

/list - provides a list of available chat rooms

You can double click on a room instead of typing /join.

Right click on the room tab and select Close rather than type /part.

Right click the nick in the column to the right and choose ignore for various choices in ignoring your favorite annoyance.

Double click on a person's name to open a private room.
