DETROIT (Reuters) - DaimlerChrysler on Wednesday said it will appeal a $101.75 million verdict against the German auto maker after a Tennessee jury ruled against the company for a seat design that was cited in the death of an 8-month-old child.
The jury in Davidson County Circuit Court in Nashville, Tennessee, awarded the parents of Joshua Flax $98 million in punitive damages and $7.5 million in compensation for wrongful death and emotional distress. That included $101.75 million against DaimlerChrysler and $3.75 million against the driver of the pickup truck for a total of $105.5 million.
