TACOMA, Wash. -- For 23 years, Cindy Harris had a piece of U2's history wrapped in plastic in her Tacoma-area garage.

Now, a briefcase taken from the band in 1981 is back in the hands of lead singer Bono, courtesy of a yearlong effort by Harris and friend Danielle Rheaume.

Harris and her then-husband found the briefcase in an attic when they moved into a rental house in University Place in 1982. Looking through it, she found a notebook full of lyrics meant for U2's second album, 1981's "October." Harris, 44, immediately knew it belonged to the band, but wasn't sure how to go about returning it. Eventually, she forgot about it.
