Is Ares Gone?

It may be just my computer, but does Ares seem a bit, um, non fucntional. Even the site is down.

Well that weird then, cause I can't connect either way. They must have kicked me out then, lol.

you know, now that I think about it, it did this to me a while back. I had to change a setting in my control panel....something to do with proxies. It didn't apply to me, but I changed it any way, and it fixed it.

No, this is more the weird. I can't even connect to the website for either Ares or Ares Lite. It's like my IP was banned from any contact. It's kinda freakin me out. Tell me if it works for you.

try going to www.peerevolution.com maybe you can find answer there got to forums then to ares forum

ares also contains adware so if you have a firewall up it might not step in the door"my opinion"

ok after countless uninstalls and attempts to reinstall, I can't get the website to open for ares lite or aresgalaxy. The webpage can't be displayed and when i can get it to work to d/l off of, the program won't connect.

Has ares disappeared? And.. yes I did make the mistake of d/ling SP2.

www.whatismyip.com , if your IP starts with 83 or 70, than you're blocked by the website host. Don't ask me why.

I would say:

Check and see if somehow your name got listed on the PG list accidentally if you use that prog. I did know of one user who definitely shouldn't be on that list but did end up there. If that has happened, go to MethLabs.org and write a note to them.

I do live close to the area where the Slyck article mentions--one of the areas. I am not blocked from Ares, but did have probs w/ PG shutting down on me continuously. They are my cyber condom and I practice safe cyber. LOL I also don't want anything right now, I have a bunch of graphics to burn out, I am in the red zone on all my drives.

I do run a hardware firewall--dlink. I did have to configure it to make it run faster, but that is easily done by going to the website. I really recommend a hardware firewall to everyone nowdays. D-Link is inexpensive, just make sure that the router you get does double as a firewall. Often you can get rebates from the company that will lower the price to about $25 US--even without, they are still relatively inexpensive and work much better than ZA or BI.

I don't have SP2 installed, and don't want it. My HP doesn't even run SP1 because of some need for a patch. I have had no problems not running either. But, I have a good Virus Prog--Norton SystemWorks Pro, and I do Trend scans occasionally. Zero-Knowledge, the M$ XP firewall prog in here is disabled. My HP I just reloaded after a reformatting and I haven't gotten around to disabling that one. I can get to sites but can't access my email. I really just don't trust M$ for my protection.

I guess the best answer would be to download Ares via Proxy. But that doesnt solve the problem of Ares not connecting to the server. Anyone gather why IPs with 83 or 70 are blocked? It should have nothing to do with my ISP.

I had read on another site that it has to do with AT&T being the backbone. Alot of the ISP's are running scared of the RIAA suits and AT&T is blocking or the ISP's are blocking access to certain sites by using the 70 or 83.

why should it be gone? hm developement seems to be down, a year ago, there was an update onve a week, but now there weren't any new builds in ages, and don't talk about a changelog, i never saw one :)

do you connect to the internet through a router? if you do you might have to do port forwarding to get ares to connect

is your firewall on? if it is you might have to change the settings so that it lets ares connect

hey...im from india...and for some reason my ares does not connect. can somebody pleas help me??? i've checked the box which says "My computer is behind a firewall and cannot accept incoming connections",even though ares is on my safe list of the firewall. i also have limewire installed on my computer and that works fine.

Hmm, that is a bit strange. Im not sure why one would connect and not the other.

Have you tried un- checking that box to see if that will help
I have had problems with Yahoo messenger among other programs that I had to un check that to get it to connect...
