He was a geek. A nerd. In junior high school, Richard Gere was not exactly the guy who got the girl.
His mother thought she found a solution -- he would take dance lessons and wow them at the junior high prom.
"I remember my teacher's name was Jack Gronow," Gere said. "He was the ballroom guy. I was short and the girls in class were about two heads taller. I remember being twirled around the room by these much larger girls just feeling horrible about myself."
The man who swore he had never danced professionally when he began the Oscar-winning film "Chicago" a few years ago can't seem to keep his feet still these days.
