While Ichiro Suzuki is closing in on a big record, the Anaheim Angels (news) keep stumbling in their effort to gain ground in the playoff chase
Suzuki went 5-for-5 to pull within 14 hits of George Sisler's major league record of 257, and the Seattle Mariners (news) beat the Angels 7-3 Tuesday night. Anaheim remained 2 1/2 games behind first-place Oakland in the AL West and dropped 5 1/2 games back of Boston in the wild-card race.
Suzuki became the first player with four five-hit games in a season since San Diego's Tony Gwynn in 1993, according to the Elias Sports Bureau
