Sweat Suit is actually two separate Nelly CDs, both out on the same day. Sweat is a collection of party anthems featuring guest appearances by Christina Aguilera and Mobb Deep; the more introspective Suit includes numbers about a homeless man, an unnamed special lady and Nelly's ten-year-old daughter. The Neptunes-produced banger "Flap Your Wings," from Sweat, and Suit's Teddy Pendergrass-sampling "My Place" are already taking off on the radio, and two other songs seem destined for the singles charts: "Tilt Ya Head Back," on which Nelly and Aguilera trade flirtatious verses, and "Over and Over," which features an acoustic groove and a dewy-eyed chorus from country singer Tim McGraw. "We're coming down to the wire," says Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden, on his way to an L.A. studio to put the finishing touches on the band's third album. Having already spent five months on the record, the band plans to use the ten days it has left before joining the Vans Warped Tour to mix in a choir and some additional orchestral arrangements. "We wrote a lot of the songs up in the mountains," Madden says. "This is a very dramatic record - a lot of crescendos and stuff." Their multiplatinum 2002 album, The Young and the Hopeless, left Good Charlotte flush with success, yet many of the new songs evoke typical twentysomething drama. "My dark side comes out in the songs," says Madden. "That's the only place I can express it." But Chronicles isn't all big guitars and sad-hearted melodies. It also includes lighter fare such as the dancehall-flavored "I Just Wanna Live," and the band is hoping to tap Pharrell Williams, Common or Talib Kweli for a last-minute collaboration.
