BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Horror thriller "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" grossed about US$23.7 million in its debut to take the top spot at North America box office this weekend, according to studio estimates released Sunday.
"Resident Evil: Apocalypse" is a sequel to 2002's video game- inspired "Resident Evil," which opened with US$17.7 million and finished with US$40 million.
The movie stars Milla Jovovich as the leader of a group of survivors of a virus outbreak at a scientific lab to fight back the attacks by bloodthirsty zombies and find a way to contain the spread of the virus
