NEW YORK - Former champion Lleyton Hewitt beat Karol Beck of Slovakia 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 and rolled into the U.S. Open quarterfinals on Tuesday without dropping a set.
Hewitt, the 2001 champ on a 14-match winning streak, remained on course for a showdown with defending champion Andy Roddick in the semifinals. Roddick played Tommy Robredo of Spain in a late match.
Hewitt hardly had to sweat in taking five service games from Beck, who spoiled his debut fourth-round appearance in a Grand Slam with 38 unforced errors and seven double faults.
Up next for the Australian will be another unseeded player, either Tommy Haas of Germany or Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic.
