where can i get UNIX from? is it free?

depends on what client you want. for redhat go to www.redhat.com

for mandrake go to http://www.linux-mandrake.com/

debian - http://www.debian.org/

I'm sure other people can give you a ton of other sites.

As far as I know most linux/unix clients are free to distibute. It falls under the GNU liscense which makes it free to download and burn. It's not for the computer illiterate though. Maybe some people could post some good help sites for linux also.

i know where u can get free UNIX but the thing is do u want it is a 20 + year old copy.
heres what some of the .txt file says

Choose any filename
ZIEL is target
Choose 3«" FD
GO and have fun!

So the thing is do u have 30 floppys and lots of time.
is u want to go more towards unix try a linux distro i hear slarkware is nice and gentoo. Or u can try a BSD system
FreeBSD and OpenBsd are ur best bets if u ask me for a closest UNIX like u can it in the modern days.

UNIX is different to Linux. Linux IS NOT based on UNIX, it's a clone of UNIX, with a load of upgrades.

If you're looking for a text-only OS, then yes, you're looking for UNIX. Otherwise, you're looking for Linux, eg. RedHat, Mandrake, Debian/Knoppix, SuSe.
