I came across the site this morning. It is "Microsoft Windows Update V5". It is active because I checked the link and I got the familiar request to install the ActiveX component to upgrade to version 5 (dated 8/03/2004). I declined the request for now. I assume this is the "new" Windows Update which includes SP2.
(version 4 is the current Windows Update)
Just wondering if anyone else is using or has come across the site and could provide any information.
Here is the link:

What is really strange, is when I click the link in my system to go to M$ Update, it always took me to
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/.
Now it starts out as 4, but quickly switches to
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/.
I figured it was just microsoft that had made the change, part of directing people to their newest update site.
:dontknow:

Weird!
When I click my system Windows Update link, I still go to the V4 site. It doesn't request an update to V5.
Only heaven knows what MS is doing. *L*

Hey...that IS wierd. I declined for now also. I am not ready for SP2 myself. There are many changes in the new SP2 that will affect P2P users such as torrent downloads, so I've heard. I am curious to learn more about what others folks are doing in regards to these changes; like work arounds for example.

Additional Info:
Ok, I went ahead and installed the ActiveX control to update to version 5 of the Windows Update site. New layout, however.....
There is a prompt to "turn-on" Auto Updates. I DID NOT use the prompt. Before I could use the "search for updates feature" I had to install additonal files. It searched for updates, etc.............
Just out of curiousity I checked my settings and found that "Automatic Updates" was now turned on! Grrrrrrrrrrrr! Also there was a new screen for the "SystemProperties/Automatic Updates. Same for the service "Automatic Updates", it was turn on.
So, I turned off "Automatic Updates" in both places (I had it turned off originally) and then went back to the Windows Update site. It started to load, and then I got a message that "Automatic Updates" was turned off and that my computer could not be updated.
So, the only way to update your system using the Windows Update V5 site is to have Automatic Updates turned on!
I hate MS!

Hey buddy, did you see this (http://www.unitethecows.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6038) news post I made? I got mine set now so SP2 won't be included in the rest of the automatic updates. (for now anyway) ;)

Thanks RB..... :)
I saw that before, but didn't think that much about it until now..... *L*
I just turned off "auto updates" and will turn it back on when I need to check for updates. A hassle, I now, but MS never makes anything easy.
