LOS ANGELES -- Miramax Films laid off 13 percent of its work force Friday, a move designed to cut costs amid a declining spate of movie releases by the film studio in recent years.
"This is not a reflection on anyone's performance, it was simply an effort to bring our staff levels in line with a smaller release slate," said Miramax spokesman Matthew Hiltzik. He declined to give additional details.
The move trimmed 65 positions from Miramax's work force of 485, Hiltzik said.
The layoffs had been the subject of much speculation in recent months.
