"ABIT's SecureIDE will keep government supercomputers busy for weeks and will keep the RIAA away from your Kazaa files."

That's the promise of ABIT Computer's new IC7-MAX3 motherboard - and what must be the world's first product to use a claimed ability to block out the RIAA as a major selling feature.

Based in Taipei, Taiwan, ABIT obviously believes it's safe from the wiles of the RIAA and its allies in associated hardware companies.

This is very interesting! I want to see some hardware review sites test this board out! It'd be awesome if it did actually work.

However, it says, "SecureIDE connects to your IDE hard disk and has a special decoder; without a special key, your hard disk cannot be opened by anyone." Now how are you supposed to be able to share?

I saw this this posted on another site too. I don't think the point of this is to protect your files while sharing online. More like protection from being physically accessed if your harddrive is stolen or confiscated.

Nice idea and wolfies right, it sounds like protection if its stolen or confiscated, the thing that worries me is what happens if your motherboard fails? There must be some way to still access the data then but they are not saying much about it.
