The storylines of Peter, M.J. and Harry reminded me a little of Clark, Lex and Lana. The awkward hero holds back his love for the girl because he's trying to protect her, while his best friend is revving up to become one of his greatest enemies.
I know that Stan Lee had these stories in his comics ages ago, but I halfwondered if Gough and Millar- who wrote the screenplay- were sort of satisfying -their Smallville fans vicariously through Peter Parker and his pals. I imagine Smallville ending very much like Spider-Man 2 ended, with all the characters coming full circle in their roles and their relationships with eachother. Secrets are told and the triangle is finally defined.
