Not so much a tweak, but an answer to a problem, if you happen to run into it.
It seems that "low disk space" and "System Restore" are linked together in some way in WinXP, as far as monitoring is concerned.
I ran into this problem when I partitioned my HD, and placed my "pagefile" on its own partition. I turned off the "low disk space warning" on the pagefile partition because I was getting it everytime I booted up. I only made that partition the required size of my pagefile.
Anyway, then I noticed that I could not keep Restore Points, only the most recent one, any previous points would disappear when I rebooted.
It took awhile but I finally figured out that unless a partition has at least 15% unused space, System Restore will bulk and cause an error (I found the errors in Event Viewer). It will then cause Sytem Restore to stop monitoring and thus any previous Restore Points would be cleared. (Same as turning System Restore off and then turning it back on).
The fix: Just turn monitoring of the pagefile partition off in System Restore Settings. A partition of that type doesn't need to be monitored anyway. Same for a partition that is used just for caching temp files for burning, video editing, etc...
Moral is, if you have multiple partitions, or for all that matter, a single partition with less than 15% unused space, your gonna have a problem with System Restore.
If you want to maintain several Restore Points (I always set a Restore Point before installing software in case of a problem) then just make sure that you have at least 15% unused space available.
