With all the new tools introduced by Adobe in Photoshop 7 and CS, many people, including those already in the graphic design field, found themselves rushing back to the classroom to brush up on techniques they had learned long ago and on how to use all the the new tools that had been introduced.
While doing some browsing aroundover at deviantART.com earlier today, I went to the downloads section and found a much more comprehensive overview than both the beginning PS7 and Advanced PS class I have just completed in the form of free, downloadable pdf manuals for the beginner and intermediate user. The manuals for the advanced user are still available but in html format and with links for NUI.
As I understand it, Adobe's Photoshop Elements has many of the same tools so I think these tutorials could be of benefit to Elements users also.

I didn't help you fix it!!! I just post them and screw them up. I leave fixing this stuff to you code geniuses. And here I was cussing at this monitor about not using html which is horrid enough and closing WHAT tags and I come over here with 2 tabs open to flip back and forth to Lion's instructions and another to the original webpage and it's done. Ya'll just like ta twist a poor girl's head all around now dontcha?
Double Jeopardy Question: For $5000 Alex Trebeck asks: What group sang the 1980's hit "Head Games"?
Okay, back to the story now.......
Upon further investigation. there is also a user forum that one can post any question from the simplest to the most complicated in, and a special thread where the author of the actual book will answer questions posed. Additionally, there is a jobs offered and jobs wanted area. This forum also deals with vector based programs such as Corel, Illustrator, etc: it claims to have answers to questions on ANY of the 3D programs; Flash; Web; transparent gifs (you could teach that FW!!); and an area for links and 3rd party plug-ins.
This forum is not nearly as kewl as the UTC forum, but you don't have to be a member to use it either. So, I am not advocating you run off and join. Just grab that knowledge and bring it back on home where it belongs-- with us, here in the pasture. We gotta keep our fences pretty. And, it sounds like all those southern folks are gonna be having a party soon--someone is gonna need to know how to take care of those photos, though Janet sounds like she is pretty handy with PS from what I have read, but I could be confused.
Thje answer to the Jeopardy Question is: Foreigner??? I was sure it was Talking Heads, there goes my Talking Mods joke.......

I just don't understand. I thought I had to put that link in there. And there it was.
The picture looks so flat. How do you keep it so smooth with all that lumpie coding under there? How am I ever going to go into programming. The idea is just frightening. I hope everyone is very afraid when it is time for me to go through trouble shooting class and that little classroom cooked virus slips right past me while I go "Huh?"

Big Raspberries on you Pake!!!
I hate proofreading. I am not a secretary. I make stupid grids and take them into Quark or less often, InDesign, and then manipulate text in Illustrator. I correct colors in PS7. I do boring corporate stuff or really off the wall photos for people that can't get a normal photographer to do them--like "Happy Valeninte's Day--pics of my genital piercings while I'm bound up just for you!!" or Happy Birthday--You said you always wanted to see me with a girl" type stuff. From the very boring to the very not so boring.
My big worries are trying not to worry about visibly cringing when someone uses the word font instead of typeface and explaing that Arial is not good for long blocks of text.
I am hardly a creative person or a secretary. I leave that for you young artistic types.
The idea of me going into programming is obnoxiously funny--the counselor that came up with that one obviously enjoyed the 60's a bit too much, but sure, I'll give it a shot.
If I speak in a way that leaves you wondering, there is probably a PM sitting behind it that no one else has read and it is a bit of an inside joke. Sorry if I am confusing.

Yeah, wallpapers and background textures are something I got one day in each class on, was supposed to be a whiz at, but then when I needed them, couldn't find in any of my books. I had to go to a bunch of different sites for step by step instructions when it came time to use them in advanced illustration. In fact, I got a long list of sites from here before the roll back provided by???????? Neil T?, maybe? I'm not sure. Maybe colin since I'm kind of remembering visitng his site over in the UK and bookmarking it (props to colin's site, though as I recall, it was down the last I visited).
I really thought about just giving everyone here my password to go in there and grab the stuff, or downloading it and throwing the zips up in true p2p fashion, but then thought that might not be too cool. But hey, I had to pay to get in there. I'm glad they provided a link like this. Pirating other sites doesn't seem too cool.
And I'm proofreading this Pake.
Also, I am NOT the sepia over at deviantART.com
