hmmm , this is weird . i reformatted and the problem came back .. when my pc starts up it sees the nic card and it says wan miniport in the lower right corner , then the pc has the blue screen of death and restarts ... im going to reformatt for the second time but is there an easier way ? why would the pc do this ?... im so confused and annoyed..

A friend had a laptop and had blue screen of death.

It was due to network card that crashed XP pro. she changed the card and everything is fine now

So consider changing the network card

If possible try putting your nic in a different pci slot.

(be a good idea to completely delete the nic from your device manager, then shutdown, move the nic to a different slot, and let it reinstall)

I cannot see how reformatting would fix the problem if it is hardware/bios related, but tamarisk is right-- you would probably solve the problem by changing to a different nic.

did you remove the card during reinstall? my laptop will never set up properly if i leave anything in it.
