I am using BitTorrent more and more and am now finding myself with a growing list of sites offering torrents and trackers.

I'm gonna share my list and if you guys can add to it, let's keep it goin. Unfortunately sites kinda come and go. I just went to Bytemonsoon and find it's now for sale. Crapola! Anudder good site bites the dust!

Ennyways, there are still many good sites still up, so I want to share em and have you guys share some with me.

In no particular order;

Hawkie's World (http://www.hawkies-world.org/) ~ A BT community offering a friendly atmosphere and torrents of all kinds. Membership and minimum number of posts required to view and download torrents. List of "Who Downloaded" torrents. ***DOWN TEMPORARILY***

Digital-Update (http://www.digital-update.com/) ~ (formerly Torrent Addictions) They once again are accepting new members. This is another great community forum offering torrents of all kinds. They and Hawkies are sister sites. Membership and posting required to d/l torrents. List of "Who Downloaded" torrents.

TorrentBox (http://www.torrentbox.com/) ~ A fairly new growing torrent community, they do allow visitors to download torrents without prior membership. They also feature a public tracker, you must register to use the tracker.

Torrentz.com (http://www.torrentz.com/) ~ Now affiliated with Filesoup, this site offers a decent selection of files. Membership required. ***DOWN!***

DigitalDistractions (http://www.digitaldistractions.org/torrents.php?showid=42) ~ A good selection of rather different TV shows. Food TV, Britcoms and Comedy Central to name a few. No membership required.

sharingthegroove (http://www.sharingthegroove.org/msgboard/) ~ Music, music and more music. All types, both audio and video. BUT mp3 is a dirty word here. Ya might wanna brush up on some of the lossless formats before venturing here or stick with the videos. Lots of rare stuff though. Knowledgable members abound. Membership required. ***DOWN TEMPORARILY***

The Emporium (http://empornium.us:6969/) ~ Pr0n, nuthin but pr0n. How the hell would I know if they require membership to download torrents? (they do :squint: )

LickMyTaint (http://www.lickmytaint.com/) ~ No torrents, but links to everything else. Forums, News and links to working torrents sites. Updated frequently.

SuprNova (http://www.suprnova.org/) ~ The big daddy of torrent sites. Just a list of available torrents, just download em, no membership required.

FileSoup (http://www.filesoup.com/forum/index.php) ~ They're just the oldest torrent community around. Great selection of torrents, good discussion of all things BT and trackers. Membership required.

Pirates of the UK (http://www.potuk.com/) ~Newly updated, torrents availabe to members in the forums. Great selection of music, movies, apps, etc. Good site! Membership required.

LokiTorrents.com (http://www.lokitorrent.com/) ~ All kinds of files available. Nice list format. Membership required

TorrentMania (http://torrentmania.net/) ~ A variety of files available in a nice list format. Membership required to download torrents.

alanb (http://alanb.yi.org:6969/) ~ Good list of torrents. Membership required.

The BeeHive Tracker List (http://trackers.thebeehive.me.uk/) ~ No torrents here, but a great list of public trackers as well as a downloadable list that can load into MakeTorrent2.

Got Woot (http://www.gotwoot.net/torrents.php) ~ Anime, lot's of it. If yer gonna do only one thing ya gotta do it well. No membership required to download torrents.

RotoLabs (http://www.robotolabs.cjb.net/) ~ Another specialty site, this one does The Simpsons. Hehe, One stop Shoppin if yer lookin fer yer Homer fix.......... No membership required to download torrents and they have ED2K links too........

TVTorrents (http://tvt.milfclan.com/) ~ Unless yer Homer Simpson, I shouldn't have to tell ya what this site specializes in......... No membership required.

CentralDownload (http://centraldownload.org/forum/) - New site public tracker. Now forum based. Main page tracker down, this now links to the forums.

CRAZYMAZEYS House of Horror (http://crazymazey.kicks-ass.org/) ~ Looks like a pretty good site; if yer into horror, otherwise there ain't gonna be much here fer ya......... Must register to download torrents

PunkTorrents (http://punktorrents.com/index.php?showtopic=3789) ~ Obviously specializing in pUNk r0Ck, ska, emo, etc........... Must register to access the torrents.

Demonoid (http://demonoid.com/) ~ Good all around torrent site, registration required

DownLoadFaster (http://www.downloadfaster.org/browse.php)~ Fairly new site, nice selection. List format. Registration required.

Torrent3x (http://torrent3x.net/forums/index.php?act=idx)~ Nice forum run by BoaR, he's run/ been affiliated with several BT sites in the past. Registration required.

FileList.org (http://www.filelist.org/browse.php)~ Nice list of available torrents. Registration required.

Sci-Fi Classics (http://www.scifi-classics.net:6969/)~ As the name implies, they specialize in Sci-Fi. This site has a very nice selection in list form. Registration Required.

MV Group (http://www.mvgroup.org/) ~ Documentaries, all educational content. A lot of BBC and Discovery. Well laid out, but I do believe membership is required, alas. They are real laid back about it though.........

The Pirate Bay (http://thepiratebay.org/) ~ Straightforward listing of available torrents, leaning towards some scandinavian language, but you should be able to figger it all out.

Hustlers Place (http://hustlers-place.com/files/index.php?) ~ Also a listing, but I am willing to bet this place is going to go to a forum based/posting required format soon, just a hunch from reading through the forums a bit...........

As most of us know, there have been some crackdowns on filesharing made and now it looks like it has affected many BT sites.

A few are down, status unknown. Some say they will be back up, others aren't saying.

M$ stuff is now banned from many sites.

Many sites are requiring membership, some are requiring a certain amount of posts before allowing the torrents to even be seen. Some are getting quite militant about members adhereing to a stringent set of requirements.

Some sites are displaying a list of those who have downloaded what torrents, others are posting download statistics, in an effort to stem hit and runs.

I am not sure what to make of all this. I have always felt that BT has certain flaws about it that might eventually come back to hurt it. The total lack of anonimity is now being worsened by sites actually displaying specific download activity by members.

The neccessity for files to be individually "torrented" in order to share has led to the problem of putting a large burden on seeders and in turn has made it neccessary to take measures to root out "hit and runners". I feel this is the age old problem of leechers vs. sharers taken to an extreme, but due to the nature of this program and the way it shares files the importance of monitoring and reporting downloads has taken on such importance that it may become impossible to quietly and discreetly download files using BT.

Furthermore, the dependance on trackers put a burden of bandwidth issues, legality issues and, as we are seeing more and more, propietary issues where sites attempt to "own" the torrents on their trackers. I can not say this last practice is right or wrong, after all there are expenses incurred in running a tracker and each site has the right to make decisions about their own trackers involving where else those torrents can be posted. I know the strain of hosting popular torrents can and does break servers. But it is a limiting factor as far as sharing files goes and it may well prove to be the Achilles Heel as far as BitTorrent is concerned.

These are just my random observations concerning what I have noticed to be sometimes radical changes that have been occurring quite rapidly within the BitTorrent community recently.

As much as I love BT, it seems to me that there may be certain limitations to it's use in a hostile filesharing climate that may make it vulnerable. I think what we are seeing right now are attempts to overcome the weaknesses and vulnerabilities that are inherent in this program. Consequently, the forums that choose to run trackers and share torrents are becoming more regimented and requiring more from us in order to access the torrents. Sites like SuprNova where anyone can come and download torrents are becoming far fewer. I have updated a couple of sites on my list to reflect this change and will continue to keep everyone posted about tightening requirements as sites implement them.

Jeez! I just updated this a little over an hour ago and while surfing TorrentAddiction, I clicked View New Post and the following message came up;

Site closed until co-lo sorted, its a catch 22 we need donations to buy hardware but no one is visiting and posting to the site after the current takedown.

I can see this affecting other forums on the same NOC if they have not received a notice yet.

We will be looking for a decent co-lo in either malaysia or cyprus until then the site must now remain closed doors.

Donators will be the only people given access to the forums to show appreciation as it will be the same people that are paying for the new co-lo.

If you have made a donation and require your account upgrading please email me at highvoltage150@REMOVETHIShotmail.com

I got a few new ones to add.

It looks like some of the forum based Torrent sites are becoming more trouble than they're worth. Between posting requirements, IP tracking, keeping lists of who is downloading which torrent, and the seemingly constant whining about not enough "thank yous" it makes me wonder if they're just trying to suck the fun right out of filesharing................ I do agree with the seeding requirements though, keep yer ratio up or being banned is a good way to keep torrents alive, but the rest of the crap just seems counterproductive.

So these sites are good ones that allow you to browse the available torrents and download, no joining (as of yet).

Would Shareaza (http://www.shareaza.com/) & TorrentMind (http://torrentmind.com/) fall into this listing?
I am very new to all this with BT's info, but I think they would seem to. If now, could someone please explain to me why they don't?

Also, what about

Find Hash (http://findhash.com/)?

Added *rasta* For those who don't know, Demonoid is back up. The folks over there are extremely helpful, and will even talk a dunce trough their very well written tutorial. The spot is trying some new stuff out.
I still scratch my head at 6 hours of trying to figure out how to work these things.

The deomonoid site is very strict about what they will and won't allow to be posted--make sure you read the FAQ's--no hacks, pRon, etc.

I also go to Torrentlounge for my movies - they always seem to release the latest ones before any other sites. They have a group of members called "TLS" which seem to have some great contacts.
I found that they are really friendly & they've helped me out with some torrent & non-torrent related problems.
I also got a VIP account & now have access to loads of direct downloads, ftp downloads & the "Cream" of their torrents.
I think it's a great site - what do other ppl think.........
