Does anyone know of any good programs to use to back up an entire HD on to one CD? I want to back up my songs, but I need something that won't make me have to use a lot of CDs. Any suggestions?

Yea I could do that...and have done it before. But I have over 8GB of music. So I need something that will make an image or something of that HD. That way I can put it on one CD.

Not sure about getting it on one CD, but I think Rasta can help ya there. He uses Norton Ghost I think. IF he doesn't see this, then send him a PM. ;)

You could try using powerquest drive image to do it, not sure if you would be able to compress it enough to go onto 1 cd but it could be worth a look because i use it to image my HDD and its a very good prog.

I would be happy if I could fit it on 2 cds. I just don't want to use 10 cds just to back up my HD.

Well, yer gonna hafta use the 10 CDs.

I don't know of any compression that will put 8 gigs on a 700 meg CD!

I'm not gonna do the math but that is unrealistic.

I would recommend that you buy an extra Hard Drive. A 20 gig shouldn't be more than $25-30 nowadays and I bet you could pick up a used one dirt cheap. That will back up your music and then some.

Norton Ghost or Drive Image are both great programs, but they will only back up entire drives or partitions, not individual files or folders.

Heres how I have things; I've got two HDs, C: and D:

Now my music is on the D: and that drive has nothing except things I've downloaded. So could I just use one of the programs and make an image of that drive? Would that work?

Yup. All ya hafta do is pick the source drive (what you want to clone) or partition then the desination (where you want to clone it to) and then go.

I use Norton Ghost and I usually just use a boot disk and run it in DOS.

You will not be able to clone in Windows, although these programs will allow you to set up the cloning process in Windows, the computer will have to reboot to do the actual cloning.
