Okay, I'm wondering if anyone else isn't able to update their AVG Antivirus (free edition)? I haven't been able to get an update file for it lately, I have tried updating from both grisoft.com and grisoft.cz and get nothing.

Are their update servers just getting hammered or something?:hammered:

A friend of mine still had the Free Version...
about 2 months ago, I could only update it from the HOMEPAGE (http://www.grisoft.com/html/us_index.htm) ...after about a week of this..I installed Pro for her....she has since had the problem 1 more time, but it was because she didn't update for 2 weeks & the updating changed.

I would go to the link above & download the latest updates..it should fix the problem.

BTW-AVG has updated almost everyday for the last 2 weeks...you should check it everyday JMO ;)

Go to the link above, click on Download, than Updates...from there you can get any updates you need.

Forgot:

Download the update to a folder, then click on update & choose the folder where you put it.

Thanks Lion7718 and NitnayLion, or should I just say Lions. I bookmarked that page so I can download the update files from there.

Mine quit auto updating too, and I've been having the same problem.

I noticed when it finally did update, it downloads very slowly directly from grisoft, where as before it would download very quickly from akami. Maybe AVG lost their backbone to akami?

Lately, I have been going to the Grisoft page and getting the update file. It is always quicker for me than updating through AVG. Just download the update file, save to your desktop, then move it into folder - C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\Update. (if you use the free version like myself, on XP) Then "Run AVG Anti-Virus" from the AVG icon in your sys tray, and it updates it's self. Clean, fast, no fuss, no muss. ;)

well today is ur lucky ...just do it like this...it worked for me....

Navigate to your AVG install directory and rename your existing url.ini file to url.iniold.

Copy the following and paste into notepad and save it as url.ini. Put this new file into your AVG install directory. You'll now have 3 options to select from with www.grisoft.com being the default.

[SERVER_NAME]
1=free.grisoft.cz
2=ftp.grisoft.com
3=www.grisoft.com

[SERVER_URL]
1=http://free.grisoft.cz/softw/60/fe
2=ftp.grisoft.com/pub/softw/60/fe/
3=http://www.grisoft.com/softw/60/fe/
Actual URL=3

That's a neat trick old-goat, I just edited my url.ini file and it works fine on updating now.

I don't have a url.ini file in my folder. I'm using the Pro version though.
Any clues where they might be stored in AVG pro?

Did that... still not working. I'm reading on some other forums that a lot of other people are having this same problem and can't get a resolution from AVG, so they are switching to Avast.

I'm using AVG7 though, so I think thats the problem. I didn't have a url.ini in that folder, I created it and put it there but it had no effect.

Seems like the free version works better than the pro :throw:
