Hard drive maker Western Digital yesterday boasted a "strong" conclusion to an "outstanding" year when it reported its Q4 2003 results.

During the quarter, WD shipped around 10.5 million drives which yielded revenues of $680 million, up 26 per cent on the same period last year. Shipments were up 31 per cent, implying a slight fall in average selling prices, but not bad considering the April-June quarter is traditionally a slow sales period, WD said.

Sounds like Western Digital picked up some of Enron's crooked accountants to me.

Seriously though, I don't like their drives, they're too noisy. My Maxtor is almost silent (and I got a $30 rebate check from Maxtor.)

It's not that surprising though considering all the new huge harddrives that are coming out that cost a boat load

I have a Maxtor aswell and they are nice.

Western Digital is popular too though and sometimes they have good deals.

I am personally a Western Digital fan. And no offence to those who use and like Maxtor, but I hate them. Every Maxtor drive I've owned has given me extreme amounts of hell in every way! I've never had any problems with any other type of HD, and Western Digital has been the best I've used so far. So this news really doesn't surprise me. :)

Same here, Western Digital are the best IMO. I have one 80 GB 8MB CACHE in my computer and it is almost silent, i sleep with my computer on most days and it doesnt give me any bother. Plus they are faster than most Maxtor drives on the majority of Benchmarks, and i hear a lot more people complaining about faulty Maxtor drives than WD.

I was thinking about getting a Maxtor over my WD 80GB for a while but my friend advised me to get the WD and i have had no problems with it for about 9 months, so im happy :).
