I would suggest you run an antivirus routine against the file. Something does not sound right at all.
Plus, if it is in .EXE format, photoshop probably will not recognize the file as a photoshop file.

ALWAYS scan every file you download, no matter where you get it from, but especially from P2P programs. This is a very likely source for virus'.
If it is an .exe file it should install when you click it, again, make sure it has been scanned before you do anything with it. If it is a virus and you have already clicked it, you probably installed a trojan horse. If this turns out to be the case you will need a good program to remove it. I think (someone please correct me if I am wrong) Spybot Search and Destroy, will do the trick. If not there are some other good programs out there for this purpose.
Do a search on google for trojan horse and see what is available, you can either purchase one or download a trial version from your favorite P2P.
Now, if it is in fact a legitimate file, you should be able to install it by running the setup routine, if it checks out clean for virus', and it still won't install, you probably got a corrupt file and you will need to download it again. (if it has the generic M$ icon instead of a picture of a computer or some other graphic, it probably is just a bad file, see the example)

Uh-oh, it's from WinMX, I can almost guarantee its fake. MX isn't good for programs and such, there's tons of fakes, and loooooooooong qeues for the real ones. I never got a virus myself off p2p, but from WinMX, I wouldn't be surprised, and it's really only a good program for MP3's.
Also, if you don't have an antivirus program and need one, download AVG antivirus, it's free. Go to http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail.php3?fid=1028312263 to get it, update it, and run it.

There used to be a program called Wrapster (http://www.team-mp3.com/mp3/wrapster.htm) around when Napster was king for changing other files to mp3s so you could trade programs and movies over Napster.
I don't know if ennybody still uses it, but that would be the only reason I can think of for Adobe to be an mp3 file. You might try to rename the file, ( right click on it and rename it from .mp3 to .exe or maybe .zip.)other than that, it may just turn out to be a fake or misnamed.

I don't know what kind of files you have been downloading, But we have yet to get a fake file from WinMX. IMO- WinMX is the best place to get program files and the WORST to get mp3. Take it from someone who uses NOTHING but WinMX, and has for over a year.
As far as the long ques....most WinMX users have any where form 20 gigs and up shared, and as long as you have good files to trade, you can ask the person you are qued up with to trade and they will start you right away. In our case we DON'T wait for much of anything. MOST WinMX users also have a WinMX monitor running, making it impossible to get into a Que with out a Large amount of shared files, thus eliminating the leeches.

Well now you are making sense.
What you have done is to download a 'pirated' version of the software.
Sorry...but cannot help you now...as I do not do pirated stuff.

I have had programs that haven't worked before, and the only thing I can suggest for problem-specific situations is to find another person that is sharing that file, and ask them if they had any trouble using it or if there is some trick that you may be un aware of.
I've done this before and there is usually at least one guys in the lot of people that have the file that can help.
I have to agree with f-w about winMX being pretty dead on about what I'm downloading. I usually do a 'find alternatives' to double check and make sure the file i'm downloading isn't fake, but this is very rare. This problem is most predominant with movies, and I believe it is a glitch in winMX, not the users that have the problem.

I wouldn't recommend downloading a .exe file from any p2p network. If it is in a zip folder, then it is less likely to be a virus, although virus writers have also recognized that fact, and are now wrapping viruses in zip/rar/ace files too. As the others have said, Scan, Scan, Scan!
WinMX is still a great source for all types of files, but the filetrading is hurting the network IMHO. It is simply not fair to be waiting patiently in line, only to have a johnny-come-lately file trader log on and get bumped up ahead of you. People are get too caught up in trying to stop leechers. What goes around comes around, and they usually get what is coming to them without having to throw the baby out with the bath water. ;)
