... that on some versions of eMule there is the option of prioritizing who downloads what from you, that is community sharing?
so if people come together on a forum and use a common nick, then they can work together efficiently?
any help on this would be appreciated, especially as my eMule doesn't seem to offer this option!?!
many thanks, Rich :)

In a word, yes. I just found out about this the other day from over at Pleasure Dome (http://forum.pleasuredome101.com). Rather than try to explain it myself, take a look here (http://forum.pleasuredome101.com/index.php?act=ST&f=12&t=8042&hl=community+sharing&). I am not sure, you may have to join the site to read this thread, but it is a very good site for ED2K and even Bit Torrent. I highly recommend it. :)

Yes, community-sharing exists but it is "not approved" by the official eMule developers as something that could prove harmful to the network, ie. creating islands of communities. It was one of the options removed from all 'official' mods during the last months of 2003 when there was a cleansing of sort to get rid of harmful features, such as community-sharing, tweaking server-reasking times etc.
So it is still used by some mods and it's up to the ppl who use them and their values: do you really need that file so badly/quickly that you are willing to violate network's 'rules of conduct' (so to speak) and use unfair method to prevent others from dl'ing from you while you give uploadslots to members of your community ( even when they wouldn't normally get that slot so quickly 'coz of credit system)???
...coin has two sides.
