I would not reccomend Leechget.

I installed on three seperate occasion with clean installs of Windows Xp Pro Corp. On each occasion I was well pleased with its full featured yet simplistic approach. (I was a fan)

Then all sorts of niggling little problems with explorer started. Extraordinaryily long seek times. Mysterious crashes and on one memorable occasion a BSOD that just wouldn't go away.

I am not a programmer but the bugs I had when this program was installed disappeared the moment I uninstalled. I'm no coder but 2 and 2 still equal 4. (....well .....mostly)

FireLoad - is a very "Slim" client that is almost transparent to the user. It weighs less then 450Kb in an activeX format and looks and feels like a standard download manager window.

Fireload supports Download acceleration of up to 700%, for regular (HTTP/FTP) downloads, Scheduled Downloading, Preview, and Pause / Resume capabilities.

btw..it has no ads/spyware and is free.

XP-AntiSpy
From HTTP://www.Majorgeeks.com

XP-AntiSpy is a little utility that let's you disable some built-in update and authetication 'features' in WindowsXP. For example, there's a service running in the background wich is called 'Automatic Updates'. I don't know what this service transfers from my machine to other machines on the internet, especially the MS ones. So I play it safe and disable such functions. If you like, you can even disable these function manually, by going through the System and checking or unchecking some checkboxes. This will take you approximately half an hour. But why wasting time when a little neat utility can do the same in 1 minute? This utility was successfully tested by lots of users, and was found to disable all the known 'Suspicious' Functions in WindowsXP

Download from HERE (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2062)

I dont know what this program is like because i dont use XP yet but stumbled across it and thought somebody may be interested.

I've used it to turn a few things off. You really only need to use it once, right after a fresh install or buying a new computer...after that, file it away till next time you need it.

due to a recent rollback on the database the post by... (damn I don't remember who...) about slimbrowser was deleted...

Slimbrowser (http://www.flashpeak.com/sbrowser/sbrowser.htm) from Slimbrowser site
SlimBrowser is a tabbed multiple-site browser. It incorporates a large collection of powerful features like built-in popup killer, skinned window frame, form filler, site group, quick-search, auto login, hidden sites, built-in commands and scripting, online translation, script error suppression, blacklist / whitelist filtering, URL Alias. It brings you convenient and comfortable browsing.

IMO this IE add-on is definately the best out there (tried myIE, NetCaptor and AvantBrowser), easy to configure simple layout... excellent!

This is a pretty cool program I tracked down yesterday...it works on all OS with IE 4,5,6:

FavOrg scans the Web sites in your Favorites list for favicons--custom icons provided by the Web site. The icons are displayed on the Favorites bar, the Favorites menu, and the Address bar. Custom icons make the Favorites list easier to scan, letting you locate a given shortcut faster. Microsoft added the custom icon feature to IE5; FavOrg brings this functionality to IE4 as well. Favicons are usually lost when you delete your Temporary Internet Files, but FavOrg preserves them. The program also lets you associate any icon you choose with a given shortcut, even if no favicon is provided. Since FavOrg must check the validity of an Internet shortcut before attempting to download the favicon, it automatically flags dead links as it goes through your Favorites list. If you like, it can update redirected links or reset dead links to the site's root.

I would like to add Avast anti-virus to the list.

It is free for home use and in my opinion is the best free AV out.
I have used AVG as well and Avast is much easier for me to use and keep up to date.

By the way .. I would not be able to function on message boards without IeSpell. :)

MooPlayer was designed to replace Windows Media Player 6 (mplayer2). It uses a similar style where the player is only the actual video, menu and window frame. It is DirectShow based which means it supports all formats that Windows Media Player does (MPEG, DivX, XviD, etc.). The interface is meant to be as minimal as possible. All controls are overlayed on the video so you can easily access them even in full screen mode. This also means they don't clutter up the view as much. It is released under the GPL and source is available for all releases.

Ya never know! I tried it on my laptop and PC. I already have a wireless network through a wireless router, but I thought i'd see how good this little tool was. It was really easy to use and user friendly, although I did find it slower than my wireless network.

Anyone else tried this? I like to hear a lot of good reviews on stuff before I try it myself. LOL

I've had it for about 6 months now, it's pretty damn good no problems on win xp pro. Cleans reg entries and aks if you want to back up before deleat. Even cleans temp downloads from Spysweeper from webroot.com. Best spy catcher program in my book. It's like a sore dick, You can't beat it.:squint:

Argali White & Yellow (http://www.argali.com/) Personal Edition is a phone number lookup program with many other cool features including:

• search for people phone numbers
• search for business phone numbers
• reverse search like "whose phone number is this?"
• reverse search like "who lives at/on this address/street?" and "what businesses are at/on this address/street?"
• search for toll-free phone numbers
• search for email addresses
• search for maps
• search for area codes
• search for zip codes
• search for weather conditions and forecast

Additional features:

• search results can be: – sorted (by last/business name, address, street name, city, state, zip code or phone number),
– saved into a file (in html, csv or text format),
– printed,
– emailed to others.

• Argali White & Yellow remembers your last 20 search results.
• Argali White & Yellow automatically updates itself when a new version becomes available.

There is a Professional version that costs U.S. $29.95 but the Personal edition is ad supported and free. I use it quite often when I want to know who the idiot is that is calling me at dinner time to try to sell me some insurance or magazines (phone spam).

The link given is for the Argali website and not a direct link to the download.

A couple of free apps I have been using recently -
DeskLoops (http://www.xilokit.com/deskloops/) - scrolls through open windows.

DesktopSidebar (http://www.desktopsidebar.com/). Very customisable - great for getting RSS feeds off sites, weather reports and tons of other plugins. For the news feature, you can create a "newspaper" - a html page of all the links from the RSS feeds which is very useful.

Snapshot of Desktop Sidebar below

Looks like some good programs. Not sure that I would use either of them, but I could certainly see how they'd be helpful. I have my montior at such a high resolution, that windows don't take up that much space to begin with, so it's never really been a problem.
