What Codec Do I Need?

Basicly i downloaded this .avi movie from a p2p client.

And when i try to play it, all it gives me in sound on my Windiows Media Player.

its a .avi. but is there anyway i can figure out what codec i need?

I use either the xvid codecs which you can get HERE (http://www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html)

Or I use divx 5.0.5 which you can get HERE (http://www.divx.com/divx/)

definetly use g-spot (lions link), it will tell you the exact codec you need. then google it, and download.

Most of the avi's you download are usually DivX or XviD. I use FFDShow to play them, very powerful filter imo.

I and I know a lot of us use Light Alloy to play AVI files it will tell you what codec you are missing and will usually direct to it's location. And it is an AWESOME player.

If you want to cover all of your bases, just install the latest AceMegaCodec pack.

It will install virtually all the codecs you will ever need.

LOL, sorry bout that. I had my wife standing behind me nagging me to use the computer (she can be soooo impatient sometimes:D :D ) so that was a quickie post.
