Mel C has become the final Spice Girl to part ways with Virgin Records, after eight years at the label.

The Northern Star joins, Emma, Victoria and Mel B in the Ex-Virgin wilderness. The label released a statement saying: "We can confirm that Melanie is no longer with Virgin Records. We were having discussions over the last few months but all agreed it was best to part ways."

However, this might not be the end of the line for Ms Chisholm, with her official site stating: "Melanie began work on new songs before Christmas and will continue writing when she returns from her holidays. Melanie wants to release her own records in future and will not be looking to sign a new deal."

What a good sport!
