COW CALLING
Don't moo excessively at cows with calves. Mooing, or lowing as it is also called, can signal distress or act as a "feed me" cry from the calf. Otherwise, mooing generally does no harm.


Respect other cow callers. Stay at least 100 yards away from anyone else who is calling cows in the area. Don't "steal" cows that are responding to another caller.


Always get permission before calling cows on private land.


Cows have almost total 360-degree panoramic vision, making them tough to sneak up on. So don't even try.


BASIC COW FACTS
Per day, a cow spends 6 hours eating and 8 hours chewing it's cud.


A cow has four stomachs.


Today's high-production dairy cows produce triple the amount of milk compared to cows from the 1960s...from about 6 gallons per day to over 20 in 1999.


An average cow with 2 milkings produces about 20 gallons of milk a day, or 50 to 60 pounds. There are approximately 350 squirts in a gallon of milk.


It takes about 1 1/2 gallons of milk to make 1 gallon of ice cream.


New Zealand is first in butter consumption at 26 lb/person/year. the United States spreads on 4.6 lb/person/year.
