Hey folks, Just need some info here. I am going to upgrade my video card to one with more memory but the new one is an 8X interface. My current card is a 4X interface. They are both based on Invidia chips. I want to insure that the card is backward compatable so it will work on my system. Btw, the new card is a Gainward FX Powerpack Ultra. Thanks, Metal1

not sure about this one, but, an 8x might clock down too the 4x speed, but dont qote me. if you have an existing 8x card(yours) you might want too try it in his system too see if it will work :).

yes, 8x cards can run at 4x.

It all depends on the MB, unless your MB is AGP 8X compatible, an 8X card will just slow down to the speed that the MB is capable of handling. Therefore, you won't get the full benefits of the card.

Word of caution. There are some utilties available to tweak Nvidia cards. Most of these allow a user to force settings (some hidden). Trying to force certain things can cause your 'puter to crash, even though the AGP card is capable, the MB might not be.
