Tomorrow is Veterans Day ..while this isn't really a veterans day message it is one of my favorites.
It never fails to lift my spirits and it makes me proud that i gave 10 years of my life to this wonderful country..10 years in the United States Navy.

Happy Veterans Day to all in the pasture.

If I wasn't so afraid of airplanes, I would want to see more of America, but since I won't get on a plane I can't do that. I have never been outside of California (which probably explains my psychotic driving.)

Well today's the day (it's Rememberence Day here, though). Our vets deserve our heartfelt thanks. Too bad I lost my poppy, like I do every year.

And I know it's done every year, but I'm still going to post this poem:

In Flanders Fields
by Lt. Col. John McCrae, M.D. (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Great poem. Someone found it in his diary after he was killed. Thanks to all the vets...

Here in Holland we celebrate the end of WW2 every 5th of may, thats the date the "end of the war" was signed in 'Wageningen' between the germans and the allied forces.
And every year there is the parade, with all the veterans, brittish, scottish, canadian, amarican, etc.
And when i stand there, watching them walk by, i feel so damned gratefull that they risked their lives, in a far away country, for people they don't even know.
If it wouldn't have been for those men, i wouldn't be sitting here now, writing this.
I think there are a lot of people who don't realize, we own our lives to them, if it wasn't for those people, fighting back then, we wouldn't live the life we live today.
And although i was born way after the war ended, i'm still very gratefull for what they did, and it gives me a good feeling, when i see thousends of people, standing there and applauding, as the veterans parade goes by.

Just my thoughts

As for myself... Thank You..

Below is something to read that has helped me remember why I do what I do. I read this and a copy of this (http://www.snopes.com/politics/war/onleave.asp) in my e-mail when I have a hard day over here. It helps me appreciate what I have and remind why I do what I do.

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN,
who salutes the Flag,
who serves under the Flag,

I don't know if you saw this in the news but it really impressed me. Funny, our US Senate/House took 2 days off as they couldn't work. On the ABC evening news, it was reported that, because of the dangers from Hurricane Isabelle approaching Washington DC.
The military members assigned the duty of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were given permission to suspend the assignment.
They refused. "No way, Sir!"
Soaked to the skin, marching in the pelting rain of a tropical storm, they said that guarding the Tomb was not just an assignment; it was the highest honor that can be afforded to a serviceperson.

The tomb has been patrolled continuously, 24/7, since 1930.

My dad was in the Army Honor Guard and he got to guard the Tomb of the Unknown soldier. There aren't alot of ppl who get the opportunity to do it.He said it was one of the greatest honors he ever got to do.

A little late but........... Salute to all our veterans and also to those that are currently serving in the military to protect us all.

(Added: BTF fortunately, I've had the opportunity to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier several times and each time I was overwhelmed. Its truly a sacred and honored place to visit.)
