"In Memory of Elizabeth R"
"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dream. Wandering by lone sea breakers, and sitting by desolate streams. World losers and world forsakers, for whom the pale moon gleams. Yet we are movers and the shakers of the world forever it seems." -Arthur O'Shaunessey

The first song I ever Dled was Modern English---I melt with you and the first p2p app I had was audio galaxy, which sucked, and I couldnt get it so I did a google search for free p2p apps and UTC came up and I came in and downloaded aquaLime, then I stuck around:)
P.S. The only reason I even got into p2p at that time was because the Modern English CD that I needed to buy to get the song was Discontinued, So the Guy working at MusicLand told me to get on the internet and download it!!! How funny is that?

I have absolutely no idea what the first song I downloaded was. But I remember my good buddy tellin me all about Napster and how great it was. He told me to ask him for a song, I asked for Voodoo, by Godsmack and boom, it was in my e-mail..........
I strongly suspect my first go at Napster was more of an orgy of downloading as opposed to waiting for a single song............It has always been my style to fill my queue to overflow and let er rip.............

Cat's in the Cradle. Had an arguement with someone about who sang it, I said Harry Chapin he said Cat Stevens. Turns out we were both right! I like Harry's better hehehe.

I guess everybody has their own opinion, but I thought AG was the best ever. I still miss it.
:frown: A guy I used to work with told me about it. I was a big fan of a band called Uriah Heep. One of Heep's members was a man named Ken Hensley. Ken did a couple of solo albums in the early 70's. They were a complete failure. But I thought they were excellent. I found them on AG 30 years later. I was hooked for life at this point. 6 months later, AG was gone.:frown: But I am a file-sharer forever now!!:)

Same here buddy. I loved AG. It was the absolute best for findng those "rare" songs, especailly oldies for an old fart like me. I used Napster first, then a Wal-Mart employee told me about AG and WinMX. I couldn't figure out AG at firsty, and mostly used WinMX. The my teenage Neice tauth me how to use it, and I loved it!
I haven't a clue what was the first song I dowloaded was now. It may have been the Ed Ames version of "Impossible Dream" from Man from LaMancha. It took me forever to get the right version, as most of the versions I got was not Ed Ames, even though they were labeled that way. That was way before the days of fakes, as most people were just ignorant of who sang what. I finally found it months later, on the old Morpheus.
I truly miss the old days of downloading, even though I was on dialup then. :(

Yup started with AG myself, went to Kazaa, fell out with that 'cause it's riddled with it. Went to WinMX, stayed there, bummed around a few others including open nap but never got on with 'em so ended up back at winmx, and I'm still there bugs virus's 'n' all.
First D/L was Tormato - Yes, closely followed by a small mountain of Floyd Ummagumma was the first I have 52 up to now and still hunting for more bootlegs (never released mr RIAA so I can't buy them):D:D:D

glt poliane ??
seems to be a good clone i tried it out in early stages but got less than 2 sharers on at any time so i ditched it but it seems to be gaining momentum after the problem with the developers pc
i will try and get a link for a download
ok i got an article and a link for downloads RB try this one out ;)
Since the days of AudioGalaxy many have attempted to imitate the unique P2P experience that AudioGalaxy gave. Few have perfected it to the extent of GLT Poliane. With GLT Poliane providing many of the features that AudioGalaxy once had, it is gaining some popularity as a home for ex-AudioGalaxy lovers.
LT is not without its limitations. GLT seems to be completely centralised, something which helped lead to the downfall of AudioGalaxy. Although the location of the server for GLT seems to be several non-US countries, this is unlikely to stop the pursuit of the recording authorities, should it reach their radar.
The rebirth of the AudioGalaxy experience hinges on the ability of GLT to migrate enough users to their service, that although has been there for some time, it has only started to get people talking lately.

Needs more users, or I'm on at wrong time of day. bit quiet. I got more Floyd cd's than the whole site. Will let it run in background though see how it gets on. Just trying out soulseek, that one seems fine, good selection and a lot of users.:D:D:D
