You can keep people from doing a 'who is' or allowing others to browse your shared files by filling up your name window with letters or symbols (not numbers).
Read the whole article here. (http://www.slyck.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=14019#14019)

The article says that when someone would do a 'who is' on you it'd simply return 'user unavailable'. The browse would return 0 files. This of course poses the kicking/cancelation problem. In my last post I lsited several programs that specifically kicked 'leechers' and by using this technique you'd look like you were leeching.

the good with the bad; I wouldn't fill up my name field unless I shared a bojillion mp3s and were afraid of the RIAA.

just some info for your pleasure

ps, this has only been confirmed on secondary connections; I'm going to try it out on a primary when I get a chance.

some inconsistancies using the 'fill up the space for you nickname' method have been reported. Unfortunately, try as I might, I cannot establish a primary connection (my router <linksys> gives me problems) and test the method using each connection type.

I'd appreciate it if someone could make a primary connection (or even secondary) with a maxed out name, join a chat room, and then whois and browse yourself. please post your results.

I'm try it out now, but I can't seem to whois anyone. i'll keep trying.
thanks in advance

edit: the whois on my self Whois query failed.
