As a cat owner, I find this very diturbing. There really are people out there that are this stupid!!
The Humane Society plans to file animal cruelty charges against a woman who dangled a kitten by its neck out of the window of her moving car, then told authorities she was merely trying to rid the animal of fleas.
Tamara Brown of the city's East Liberty section told police she was pregnant and didn't want to get fleas from the animal. A witness who reported seeing Brown dangle the cat flagged down a police officer who said he found Brown in a parking lot still holding the kitten out the window late Thursday afternoon, officials said.
Brown told police she was hoping the wind would blow the fleas off the cat, said police Cmdr. Ed Kelly.
"As it turns out, though, an examination of the 10-week-old kitten showed it did not have fleas to begin with," Kelly said.
The animal will likely be put up for adoption by the Humane Society, whose director said Friday that charges are planned against Brown.
"We've certainly seen a number of horrible incidents, including people throwing pets from cars," said Jim Bonner, executive director of the Humane Society. "But I don't think we have anything like this in our records."
