.iso???

Hi guy's/gal's. Not sure if I climbed over the right gate into this field for this info but, it's on a cd so here goes. A mate of mine has dumped upon me a copy of Sim City 4 that he says don't work. I think it's because it been done as an .iso and neither his nor my system knows what to do with it. Can't say I ever heard of one before. The pc just asks to know what prog' created it to open it. Now as I ain't got much chance of finding that out how if possible can it be got to work or installed. Am I looking at some form of DVD rip here or what:D:D:D

An ISO is a file burned as an Image. You will need a program like CloneCD or Alcohol 120 or others that will burn the Image for you. These programs also come with a Virtual Drive, so you can play the Game or Program without having to burn it.

Again Lion i owe you thanks. Although he's not happy, spent 3 days downloading that and his system spec is too low. HE HEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Only good thing is that I now have another top little piece of software. And I found out that WinRAR will open 'em as well:D:D:D

Glad to of helped..what program did you get? I use Alcohol myself....also WinRAR will open up some of them, it won't help you make a bootable disk.

Followed what you said and got Alcohol 120 - 1.4.3. build 518. Then got a copy of WinRAR as I found I'd got my hands on a password that was in .rar format and couldn't get in it. Turned into quite the mission to get both to go but, I got there in the end. As I've said before I really need to learn more about these here new fangled doohickies and throw my old flint tools in the bin:D:D:D

You might want to also try WinISO. It is a great little utility for Opening, Editing, and Converting .isos.


I use it all the time for creating .Iso files from scratch, and also for adding files to existing .isos.

I have some tools like them LP. Not the winISO, the pliers and stuff. I'll have a look at it but, I've not much intention of making any. I'm definitely a spanner man, give me an engine any day. Them I CAN fix:D:D:D

If you or your friend has a big enough hard drive. Why don't you just rip it to an image and use Deamontools to read it??

Just a suggestion though.. That's all I do since I d/l'd it....

Did basically do that. Copied it to drive then used Alcohol 120 to burn it to disc again and it works fine. Not on mine though as it's a bit old for the game, which is annoying as I like Sim city a lot:D:D:D
