URBANA, Ohio -- Ohio parents who admitted faking their daughter's leukemia to gain thousands of dollars in donations have been sentenced to prison.

Teresa Milbrandt was sentenced to 6½ years, and Robert Milbrandt received four years and 11 months.

Police say Teresa Milbrandt shaved her daughter's head and gave her sleeping pills to make it appear as if she was receiving chemotherapy. She also put her daughter in counseling to prepare for death.

Authorities say the Milbrandts fooled 65 people and businesses into donating an estimated $31,000.

:mad1:

I've worked in hospitals for about 25 years and have seen alot of low , scummy krap pulled by some peoples so called close family members, but this one really takes the cake. This was also big news up here at the time, and I was totally dumbfounded. They either had a really good defense argument (which I doubt) or an extremely lenient judge(which is more likely)...Whatever... they didn't get nearly enough time for that stunt. I think the really sad part is that they probably have an excellent chance to regain custody of their daughter in the future and physcologically screw her up even more. I really hope that kid can pull through this.

i'm not so mad that they tried to play the system. what makes me mad is htat they exploited their own child to do it.

I hope that they both "acquire" something during their visits to the grey bar motel. :stormy:

It would be poetic justice if the they both (the parents) end up with REAL cancer themselves. Preferably the very painful variety.

While I wouldn't wish Cancer on anybody, they should get some sort of fraud sentence coupled with child abuse.
