I'd say it's just a bit of fun the eMule programmers had.
Note that eMule is trying to contact out. Me? I prefer trying to connect to Google if I'm not sure that the internet connection is working, but that's just me.

It's just testing your connection to see if it's up and running. And it decided to use the nsa.gov site to test it on. You might be able to change that, but I could be very wrong.

ha ha
and imagine if 150 000 emule users attempt to connect to the NSA in a space of just a few seconds...

Dont take to lightly N.S.A. does have a program that looks for keywords in a conversation (highjack,Bin Laudin and such) and then tries to locate its source. Allthough they will never amitt to it.LoL

Umm. Nitnay?
It's called Echelon. It's actually fairly publicly admitted.
The freaky part is this: The NSA has the computational power and resources to monitor AND PROCESS something to the extent of 99% of all electronic communications an the face of the planet. Not just computer, but TV, radio, telephones, walkie talkies...
Just be glad they're on our side (And the fact that they can't spy domestically doesn't hurt either... although there are Canadian and British orginizations with similar resources, so you've got at least two people reading your mail ;) )
<edit> Bomb, hijack, president, assassinate, slaughter, infidels, jihad, terrorism, nuclear bomb, chemical weapons, anthrax, VX gas, small pox, Aum Shinrikyo... I feel safe knowing the Government is reading everything I write :D </edit>
