View Full Version : What would you like to see?

Carrie

Ok this site is hoppin again and we are always open to new ideas. The thing that sets UTC apart from the rest is that it is Run by the people for the people.
So here it is a thread set aside for all your ideas! Post here what you would like to see for UTC. If you have any ideas on how to improve, or if there is something you would just like to see, be it new themes, a new forum subject, ect....For the memebers who were members at the old UTC maybe you would like to see the Farmers Market again.

Post away members we would really like to hear your ideas!:P

anything else? what do you want out of UTC? Any forum suggestions? More news? Less news? Anything you want to see in the download section?

Userguides for p2p programs (I can help out on those)
A RIAA Thread to tell everything what the riaa is doing and suggestions on how to keep safe (Mostly for newbies)

AND A DAMN QUICK REPLY BOX!

so no one here was interested in waste?
the waste forum seems to have disappeared :)

or did it become a private forum ?

waste works great within a forum community with a private forum..

Could a 'preview post' button be added to the New Thread Page for posts. I've been posting new Posts and either have missed it or something. I know there is a 'preview reply,' but I have not seen a 'preview post'.
Not to get anyone confused: I want to see what my post looks like before I start a new Thread.

I dont mean to be a stinker, but it is not hard work... you just use a royalty free theme that someone makes for you, edit some crap if you want to ( would take even me a few seconds ) and upload. No coding necessary- especially because the XP theme you just download and upload :)

RB i think he is talking about a "preview new post" When you post a new thread.
not the "preview reply" button when replying to a post.

if im wrong just ignore me

rastagard

Yea, that's what I thought he was talkin about too, so I had to look for myself.

Here it is. I have a preview in my skin.......

c0lin, you may be right. I, like rasta, assumed that he meant the other preview. I will have to check into this further if that is the case..........

rastagard
10-21-2003, 06:19 PM
That is the preview new post button.

I am not sure if that is what he is askin about or if it is something else, but I always preview before I post anything. I have never had a problem.........

rastagard
10-22-2003, 05:57 AM
Ahhh, OK. Mystery solved, it is yer skin. It doesn't show in Green Thumb. It shows in Tech2 so if you really need it, use that skin instead.

Maybe someone who knows sumthin about this stuff can fix it..............

Hmm....This is a greenthumb for me ;)

Maybe this is a permissions thing

rastagard
10-22-2003, 06:23 AM
New POST, bud, not reply. It isn't showin when you start a new thread.

I am not sure if it is this way in only Green Thumb, but it works fine in Mech2.

Prolly the way the skin is set up........

new request:
ever now and again I'll find that a post of mine has been moved or deleted. I would appreciate it if when this was done the member was notified. not notifying the user when a post is moved isn't that bad, but getting a post deleted and no reason givin... I don't like that too much.

We have had a few technical issues, so you can't necessarily assume that any of your posts were intentionally deleted. We make it a rule to notify members if it is deemed necessary to move a post or especially if a post is deleted. ;)

Rule to live by - Don't post anything that you think is likely to get deleted. (lol) :D

In the "Green Thumb" theme, there is no Preview Post button for previewing a new thread you are starting. This is the main reason I quit using that theme. I believe this is only the case when starting a new thread, there is a preview post button for replying to a post.

How about an automatic refresh function which ya can set to what time suit yours needs. For example if you send a PM and your waiting on a reply you could enter a value of 3mins and your page would refresh every 3 mins then.

I would also like to see the weather for the day ahead somewhere, maybe the home page?

since i suspect we have a lot of students (of all ages) here, i think a 'homework', 'tutor' or 'knowledge' type area would work out.

if it were a homework style area where students can post questions, then maybe splitting it up into K-12, Post-Secondary, etc. would work nicely.

i know i would post in it, both to give and get help.

I think maybe a thread where we post info on how to keep our kids busy and out of trouble. I used to have a book called "Feed Me I'm Yours" that had all sorts of stuff in it like peanut butter play-doe, edible fingerpaints, dough for making tree ornaments at Yuletime, etc.
A;so, maybe a recipe spot and an herbal spot for making potppurri, bath saltss, etc. I have all sorts of recipes on that.

There are two books that I am dying to see and read: the 1989 or 1990 TSR Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide. On the front cover of those books, there is a logo-symbol-trademark that is shown as a blue background enclosing AD&D in white letters and 2nd edition in red letters. They are the early ADandD 2nd edition rpg core rulebooks. Is there any way for me to see and read those books using the file-sharing of this computer-net site or the Torrents one. If there is, please let me know in steps how to open the files for those books because I have never used file-sharing and I don't know what it is. Also, I am not even average at using the computer, so if any person has a way to copy those books and send them to my email or post them in this thread, I would appreciate it.

I would like to see the timezone/time for each user in their profile on the left so you can figure out when someone might be online. It could show the local time at the postees location.

I would like to see the front page become available for viewing - to anyone coming to UTC, thereby promoting more interest in the site.
Also, the front page should be better maintained , with 'old and dead wood' posts being deleted in favor of new content daily.
The front page is especially important, as this is the first impression people see of UTC.

Really, that's the philosophy we like here. Only the other day, I told someone the very same thing "Where do you want to go today?" he replied "Away from you". I laughed.

How about MS IE on your table? I'm staking $5 on these touch sensitive devices being in every home. Vista has just been released and is a good seller. Give it a try. For web technologies such as the one you're promoting here, I find MS SQL Server, and ASP.net VERY satisfactory. It can be coded in a LOT of languages.

Bye now, keep on computing!

Don - anytime you see :spam: you can report it by clicking on the 'paper' thingy icon in the upper right corner of the post.
Hover over it to make sure.

I don't mind a little interesting spam or pr0n, but some of that shit was getting rough.. especially those cam ho's that look like they would plant an icepick in your back the minute yuo looked away.. while they were ..um..er...sucking your schmeckle at the same time. UGH

every time I check in , I try to report all the spam I see.

Note to mods: could we moderate any new 'cows-in-training' posts for , say the first 5 posts - to avoid hit&run spam??...or any other similar approach that would work.

I wouldn't mind a little spam from registered and contributing users , but this 'drive by' crap is killing me
