Well, once again, I have finished another Vonnegut book. And here, just for you UTC people, is my book report. Though this book claims that it brings back Vonnegut character Kilgore Trout, Trout does not appear until the final ten pages of the novel. In fact, the back cover couldn't be further from what actually happens in the book. Though the novel does deal with the poor, and sort of examines a sociological experiment, the theme is much different than the back cover suggests.

That isn't to say that this is a bad book. It seemed to me very Vonnegut. I mean, it's a lot like his other pieces of work in that not too much happens, and it's hard to describe, yet you come away somewhat happy, and have enjoyed the experience. Vonnegut is a character writer, his stories focus around people, and their history, rather than the plot. It does have a plot, though. Don't think that he drops it just because of characters.

If you like his style and are interested in a good read, I'd suggest this book. But it would be down the list of other Vonnegut books that I would suggest before this one. This is sort of like, something to read after you've read the big ones, and are interested in more of his story telling, and not so much his epics...in terms of popularity.

What other Vonnegut books would you suggest before this one? I've got a few laying around, but I'm absolutely horrible at finishing books I start. My goal before the end of summer is to finish at least two.

Here are some that I would suggest:

Cat's Cradle
Slaughterhouse 5
Time Quake
Breakfast of Champions
Mother Night

I own the first three. Timequake is the only one I've finished.

Thanks!
