I have a wireless network connecting multiple PCs throughout the household. Only one device is using a non Linksys adapter card, which is this Dell Inspiron 6k laptop I'm using.

The router is far off in another part of the house and I'm getting a poor signal, so I bought a LS WRE54G. This one is the model w/o the ethernet port and just has an auto-configuration button and a reset switch.

On my router I'm using WPA2 encryption, but from what I've read the WRE54G only supports WEP. Is there a firmware upgrade to make the WRE54G compatible with WPA2 or should I just sell this thing on eBay? If anyone has any experience with getting this device to work, please let me know. If you have a link, or can walk me through it, or know if Linksys tech support can do it, I would appreciate it.

On a side note, I just bought longer antennas for the router and it doesn't seem to be helping much either. I'm wondering if I should try some third party firmware or something else.

I found this design online for a homemade Parabolic Antenna (http://www.freeantennas.com/projects/template/) and was wondering if that might help increase my signal strength. Does anyone have any experience with these types of things?

Thanks for your help.
