View Full Version : download speeds
i have satellite internet(direcway) and i'm using frostwire. the download speed is up to 150kbps at times but it goes down to 5kbps most of the time though. i'm downloading from 7 or 8 hosts most of the time and it it is still really slow. is this common w/ satellite internet? are there certain times of the day that are slower than other times? i'm sure most of you don't have satellite internet, but i could use some help. thanks!

Yes its common for satelite because you obviously dont have a land based connection, so your connection will fluctuate because of intereference between the satelite and your reciever.
There is really nothing you can do about it other than getting a land based connection like DSL or cable and even then there will be some flux.
Speed varying is not uncommon on p2p networks is not uncommon, remember your not downloading off a dedicated server your downloading off other people using the program just like you and your limited by the amount of upload bandwidth they have as well as the number of uploads they have as well.
i just looked on my isp's website and they have a fair access policy that only allows 165 mb to be downloaded in a certain time. thats probably one of my problems.
